Israeli Man to Become a Father From Beyond the Grave
An Israeli court has ruled that the family of a dead solider can use his sperm to create a child. According to the CBC, the man, Keivan Cohen, was single, and left no will. However, his parents had urged him to make a deposit at the sperm bank–so they still have a grandchild if he [...]
Bad Habits and Hypocracy
I have come to the realization that I have a bad habit. I have a bad habit that I can’t stand in other people. I hate when people read over my shoulder, especially when I’m on the computer. With increasing frequency, however, I find myself doing the very same thing to other people.
I catch myself [...]
Warning! High Voltage!
I think that there may be a dance-a-thon in my near future. I’ve been feeling the call of the club lately. It’s been ages since I’ve done the drinking and dancing thing, and I think I’d like to do it sometime soon. I will be Drunk Dancing Guy at least once in the coming weeks, [...]
Employers Wanted
I am looking for work as a writer, or something related. I am willing (and experienced, if indirectly) to take work as a journalist, a technical writer, a columnist, a teacher (in a semi-formal setting, not in a typical children’s school), an editor, a proofreader, a copywriter, copy editor, publisher, researcher, fact checker, or poet [...]
Positive Lifestyle Elements
I have, of late, been thinking a lot about my lifestyle, and of the lifestyle that I may be living in the next few years. I’ve been trying to think about what elements of my lifestyle are positive. Which elements are conducive to a healthy planet, a healthy city/community, and a healthy global community. I’ve [...]
Passport
I went to Canada Place submit my application for a passport this morning. Despite repeated warnings about obscenely long lineups, I went. I went because I need my passport by the end of March at the latest, and there is a fair backlog to be processed, due to new US travel requirements requiring Canadians to [...]
Powerless
This morning was an adventure. Overnight, despite being plugged in for ten hours, the battery in my car froze. AMA came out, checked the battery, and boosted me. The battery, I was told, was fucked. The boost would give me enough power to get somewhere and get it fixed. This turned out to be untrue.
Black Shoes in the Snow
The old church grounds are set to become condos
Half-million dollar mini-mansions
Where every suite is a penthouse suite
Towering over the Avenue of Nations to the north-east
Symbols of a new religion
False idols become real, if worshipped long enough
In the meantime
The great blizzard—the worst winter storm since ‘89
Drops a fresh ocean of white upon the city
Drifts moving like [...]
Untitled, 09-01-07
Been wandering the wastelands
recently
nearly two weeks, I think
finding little more than a
sleight of handhold
slippery, as you’d imagine it would be
and I went dancing off the edge
looking like a wild man
(or so I was told)
tamed now
and unrepentant
New Year’s Resolutions
I don’t generally make New Year’s resolutions but this year, I have made a few. The first is the classic “exercise more” resolution. I have actually been planning to do this for quite a while, but never got around to it. Christmastime brought with it a new portable media player and pair of track pants, [...]
