Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

My Amazon order arrived today, bringing with it Thomas Trofimuk’s The 52nd Poem, and Aesop Rock’s newest album, None Shall Pass. I obviously haven’t had time to read Thom’s new book, but I have given a good listen to None Shall Pass.
The 5th album from Long Island’s Aesop Rock is his best effort to date. His raps are better than ever (and just as oblique and cryptic), and he’s come into his own a producer. While frequent collaborator Blockhead produced half of the album’s tracks, it was often hard to tell which he had produced, and which had been produced by Aes Rock himself.
While some of Aesop’s past productions have left fans saying, “Bring back Blockhead,” I think that None Shall Pass will put an end to that. While each producer has his own distinct style—noticeable when given to close inspection—it’s hard to say if one is more talented than the other, at least based on the tracks we hear on None Shall Pass.
Like all of Aesop Rock’s work, it will get as much play in the car (where it’ll provide a kick ass groove to drive to) as it will on the home system (where it can be listened to more closely, and carefully deconstructed until the often crpytic lyrics start to make sense).
As for Thomas’ novel, I’ll write a review on River City Writer after I finish it. I’ve read the Prologue and, if that’s any indication, it will be an amazing book that I’ll find hard to put down.
