Birthday plans slowly developing

I’m still not sure what I’m going to do for my birthday this year. I’m not even sure why I’m making such a big deal of it. I mean, 25 isn’t one of the “big numbers,” is it? I mean, it’s a quarter-century, which is kind of neat, but it’s not a traditional milestone birthday.

On the other hand, this will be my first birthday with a girlfriend who I truly care about. I guess that makes it pretty special. But, again, that’s the kind of special where it doesn’t really matter what I do, as long as she’s there with me.

Whatever the reason, I’m kind of making a big deal of my birthday this year. Perhaps it’s because I’m making such a big deal about it that I’m having trouble thinking of something to do.

I want to do something that’s fun, and that will be fun for all of my friends, but also something that will make it easy for everyone to socialize (this, among other reasons, is part of why I’m not likely to go to a strip club—everyone will be staring at the dancers and not talking to one another).

R suggested going to one of the duelling piano bars and, while I think that’s a good idea, and I definitely want to go one day, I’m not sure it’s the best choice for my birthday. I mean, it would be kind of like going to a concert. Everyone will watch the show and probably enjoy themselves, but will we get much of a chance to talk?

The plan I’m leaning toward now is something more simple and laidback: dinner at a restaurant (suggestions?) followed by heading out for a night at the pub—likely my new favourite place, Pub 1905, which I’ll be writing about soon on River City Writer—and maybe over to a club later in the night, if people are in the mood for that sort of thing.

Hell, I’m tempted to even have dinner at Pub 1905. They’ve got some damn fine hotdogs on the menu. But, I think I’d rather have a nicer meal than that, on this occasion.

So, that’s probably going to be it. Dinner and then the pub. Simple but effective. Still…I’ve been starting to think about possibly going to Laser Quest in the afternoon. Then again, people will already be spending money if they come for dinner, and again at the bar. Maybe I’ll keep it simple and (relatively) inexpensive.

We went to Laser Quest for the birthday celebration of two friends a few weeks ago, and they made them get up on a pedestal to be serenaded. Just a warning.

Thanks for the warning, Sharon. :)

Those kind of minor embarrassments tend to be a part of any birthday celebration, though, so I just try to think of it as part of the fun, instead of as something I dread.

I thought Laser Quest was kinda fun! I like Pub 1905 too, good choice.

I enjoy laser tag. I haven’t been to Laser Quest in years, so it would be kind of cool to go back.
