Edmonton’s Raving Poets are back for a new fall series, aptly named 9 1/2 (2010 will be the tenth anniversary of the poetry movement, which combines live improvised music with spoken word).
The series begins on October 7, 2009 (i.e., tomorrow) and runs for 9 weeks. The show starts at 8pm, but if you want to get on the reading list, you have to show up at 7:30pm to throw your name in the hat (there are 16 slots, so if more than 16 people want to read, the list is decided by a random draw).
You can be sure that I’ll be there, checking out the many talented poets who step up to the microphone at Kasbar lounge (10444 Whyte Avenue). I’ll also be performing myself (so long as my name is drawn from the hat).
If you’ve never been to a Raving Poets open mic, you should definitely make the effort to come down sometime during the series. It is a literary experience unlike any other.
