Coffee and Cigars

As I write this, the last embers of my Macanudo Maduro are burning out on the patio. I took a slight detour on the way home from work today, and stopped off at Burlington. I had attempted to stop in last night, before the Raving Poets reading, but the shop closes early on Wednesdays, so I wasn’t able.
As spring seems to have finally sprung upon our fair city, I parked a few blocks away, and walked to the shop. When I arrived, I inquired about lighters and humidors (and decided that eBay is the best place to shop for humidors, unless you want to pay $100 or more), and then went into the walk-in humidor. I picked out another of the Thomas Hinds (short Churchill) that I had picked up a couple of weeks ago, and then asked for something that would go well with a dark roast coffee. The tobacconist, whose name I unfortunately can’t recall, recommend the Macanudo Maduro, saying that it was flavourful, but not strong. It was an excellent recommendation.
As far as size goes, it was in the 5-6 inch range. I’m not sure of the ring gauge, but based on the length I’d guess that it was either a “Hyde Park” or a “Duke of Devon” (refer to the size chart for details). The cigar had a good, even burn (I used matches, this time, instead of the crappy dollar store lighter I’ve used in the past), and a good draw. It had a creamy, almost nutty taste that was a perfect compliment to the 454 Horse Power I was drinking. Unfortunately, I ran out of coffee long before I finished the cigar. Had it not been as late as it was, I’d have brewed another pot, but I prefer to sleep at night, so I didn’t.
I think the next time that I have one of these cigars, I’ll either drink the coffee more slowly, or I’ll smoke it early enough in the day that I can brew more if I need to. While it tasted very good on it’s own, it was much better when paired with the coffee, and I suspect that some of the bitterness that I experienced toward the end of the smoke would have been subdued had I still had some coffee at that point. It was, on the whole, a good cigar. When I finally get myself set up with a humidor, I’ll definitely have at least two or three Macanudo Manduros on hand.

Ya know, the best combo of coffee and cigars is the Java by Drew Estates and Rocky Patel. I’m a fan of cigars and coffee obviously - have you tried them?
I’ve never tried then, but I just looked at a quick description, and the Java sounds like a damn fine cigar. I’ll have to ask the boys down at the shop if they have any.
