Engaged

Since I’ve long ago told all of the people whose relationships with me required being told in person (or, at least, in a manner more personal than reading it on my blog), I think it’s about time that I made this fact more public: I am engaged to be married. More accurately, Ashley and I are are engaged, as of December 15, 2006. Thanks to a rumour mill that’s more active than I’d suspected, the majority of my readers already know this, even if they haven’t heard it from me. Those of you who didn’t, well, now you do.
To my Raving Poets readers, I was actually going to make an announcement last week, but I changed my mind. The main reason is that I tend not to like my personal life public (I realize that the very existence of this blog makes that statement seem rather ironic, but the fact remains). That, in combination with the fact that I’m actually pretty shy, meant that I ended up not making any sort of Big Announcement. Besides, I’m better with the written word than I am with off-the-cuff speeches. Putting it on paper (figuratively speaking, in this case) is easier for me, and feels more honest.
After nearly two and a half months of talking about it, we’ve finally settled on a date…sort of. The wedding is set to take place in May 2008. The exact date will depend on when we can get a hall rental. The lead up to that will probably be nerve-wracking, and incredibly draining but I suspect that, in the end, it will have been worth it. To me, even if the actual wedding day is a bust, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not really about that one day, it’s about the hundreds of days that will follow–for better or for worse. Hopefully, there’ll be more better than there will be worse.
