How-to Start Video Blogging in 5 Easy Steps

I’ve been thinking about doing some video blogging (or vlogging, as the cool kids are calling it) lately, mostly for River City Writer. I’ve never really been sure where to start. I know I need a camera and a decent microphone (whether it’s built into the camera or not), but that’s about it.

For River City Writer, I’d probably need an actual camcorder, since the idea would be to capture relevant video about different aspects of Edmonton life and culture, but depending on the specific nature of the video, I might be able to get away with using a webcam.

Anyway, the point of all of this is to say that I’ve found a pretty good tutorial about how to get started with video blogging. It’s a beginner’s guide, so if you’re looking for something more advanced than “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Video Blogging,” this won’t be for you.

If you’re interested in video blogging, I recommend that you check out Michael Martine’s tutorial: “Start Video Blogging in Five Easy Steps.” It’s an incredibly easy rundown of what you need to do, and it also makes the process sound much less intimidating to those who might be afraid of the amount of work involved.

I’ve been interested in Vlogging (and podcasting) myself, but I haven’t gotten round to it yet. Not that Vlogging would go beyond “Hey I’m Mike this is what I coded today” in my case, but it’s something I intend to try when I get into cooking more often.

Thanks for the link, I didn’t think about Vblogging Teleprompters :)

Yeah, I think the teleprompter thing was probably the best hint, for me. It’s fairly obvious, when you think about it (even if you don’t use a true prompter, and just have your notes and/or script in huge font on a word processor in front of you), but I never really thought about it until I read the article.

Thanks Adam, I will check this out. I’ve been fooling around with some Camtasia screen capture/PPT video stuff, and it’s interesting, but getting over the learning curve is a little intimidating.
