I Eat Meat

For those of you who were keeping score, I have failed miserably at my plan of only eating meat when I am at restaurants and/or at other people’s houses. I eat meat at home, too.

I did manage to go for a little while without, but I just could not give it up. I like meat too much. I have, however, managed to cut back a lot on the amount of meat that I eat at home.

I use “meat alternatives” like tofu, beans, and a few other sources of non-meat protein with some regularity. And probably at least half of my at-home meals are meat-free. I think that’s pretty good, both for my health, and for the environment.

While I failed at totally eliminating meat from my at-home diet, I think I still managed to get a good results—lowering my meat intake—as a result of my failed experiment.

“My name is Ink Slinger and I eat meat.”

You sound so ashamed! Don’t be so hard on yourself. Humans eat meat! It’s ok. Be happy with the fact that you made a health conscious decision to cut back on the amount of meat you are eating. That’s the best lesson you can teach yourself. “Moderation”

Cutting it out altogether is damn near impossible. I for one am not much of a meat eater…simply because I don’t like it, especially beef. I do eat fish though, and wouldn’t give it up for anything!

So don’t think of yourself as a failure. Think of yourself as a success. You are able to balance the pleasure of eating with moderation and staying healthy.

I’ve found, from personal experience, that when you try to cut out something altogether from your diet, you crave it more and want it more. It’s better to allow yourself to indulge on occasion. And meat has its benefits. Keep that in mind. (Also remember chocolate is good for ya in moderation too! Always have chocolate!)

Haha. No, I’m not ashamed that I eat meat. I just don’t like failing at things I set out to do. But, you’re definitely right about cravings. I sooooo wanted to eat a steak, or a burger, or anything else when I went on my self-imposed meat ban. It just didn’t work.

I’m back to the mantra of: “moderation in all things—even moderation.”
