I’m Moving

If you know me particularly well, you may already be aware that I’m moving at the end of the month.

I’m not moving far, though, just down the hall. I’m downsizing from a 2-bedroom apartment to a 1-bedroom. I don’t need this much space, and I’m unwilling to pay the increased rent. Luckily, a 1-bedroom apartment became available in my building, so I don’t need to move out.

I like the building I live in right now. I think the apartments here are super nice, compared to a lot of similarly priced places in the city, and I love the location. I am just north of Oliver Square, in the community of Queen Mary Park. Apparently, it’s kind of a ghetto neighbourhood, but I’ve never had any problems. I love it here.

The location is central—just on the north-western fringes of downtown—and close to everything. From here, I can get to nearly anywhere in the city in 20 minutes or less (by car), and I’m within easy walking distance of all the downtown amenities that I’ve come to love over the past few years.

I did not want to leave my community. I don’t ever want to leave this community, really. I mean, okay, I might leave Queen Mary Park, but I don’t want to move away from the city centre. I love living downtown (or close to downtown, at least). It’s my favourite part of the city, and I suspect that it always will be.

But, anyway, I’m going to have a new apartment soon. This excites me.

While I hate moving—mainly because it’s a pain in the ass to haul all of my shit from one place to another—I love starting fresh. A new apartment means a new beginning. I can decorate however I want (though, let’s be honest, I’ll probably decorate it in mostly the same way that I’ve decorated my current place—with a modern, and fairly minimal aesthetic). I can make an empty space into my own.

I also like purging myself of all of the material bullshit that I no longer use. As I have always done when I move (which, admittedly, hasn’t been very often), I will soon be throwing out a lot of crap that I don’t use anymore. The stuff that’s in good condition will probably be given to charity, but a lot of it will, unfortunately, probably end up in a landfill somewhere. However, I’m going to try to accumulate less stuff after I move.

Anyway…yeah, I’m moving soon, and I’m really looking forward to it. I think my new place will be super awesome, and even though it’s smaller than my current digs, I think it’ll be less cluttered. I’ll be sure to have an awesome house-warming party once I’m settled in, so keep an eye on your inbox come February.
