Looking Forward to the New Apartment

I apologize for my lack of posting lately. I’m sure I could list a few excuses that you might find acceptable, but that would be a waste of time. Instead, let’s just get back into the meat of the random things I talk about on this blog.

As I mentioned a while back, I’m moving. I’m really looking forward to it—the new place I mean, not the actual moving. Even though I’m just moving down the hall, moving into a new place always feels like a bit of a fresh start.

Mostly, I’m looking forward to a chance to escape some of the clutter that has overtaken my current apartment. I have more space than I need, and I’ve managed to fill it up with a bunch of crap that I don’t need and don’t really even want. So, a lot of stuff will be getting tossed.

I’ll be donating as much as I can to charity, and possibly selling and/or Earth-Cycling a few things—why waste perfectly good stuff, just because I don’t use it anymore?—and the rest will get trashed. That’s unfortunate, I suppose, but most of what will be going in the garbage is genuinely useless. Plus, I plan to be much more frugal and less “consumeristic” in the future, so I’ll be throwing out less stuff from now on, I suspect.

It’s going to be a bit of a pain, this move. I have a party to attend the same night, so I’ve got to try to get it all done, feed the people who are helping me[1], wash-up, get ready, and make it to a party on time. Whoo! It’s gonna be a busy day tomorrow.

Despite the craziness of it all, it’ll be nice to finally get settled in. I feel like I’ve been living in transit for the past month. My place has felt more like a hotel suite than an apartment. Things are strewn about, half in boxes, and I have been eating out a lot because, even though it’s just down the hall, I didn’t want to haul a lot of groceries from one fridge to another (and, so, I haven’t done any major grocery shopping in about 2 weeks…I now have a fridge full of nothing but beer and condiments which, to be honest, isn’t much different than usual).

Once I’m finally in the new place, I’ll be able to turn it into a home again. It’ll probably take a couple of weeks to get used to it, but once I’m used it, it’ll be nice to finally feel like I’m settled in one place again.
