Low Income Housing

The title of this post is a bit sarcastic. I’m not exactly a low income earner. However, given the high price of housing in this city, I sometimes feel like I am.

I talked to my mortgage broker today, and found out how much money I can get approved for. It’s about $20,000 less than I had been hoping for, but it’s still a decent amount (I’m not going to list the exact amount here, because I’d rather not discuss my financial situation publicly). Rather, it would have been a decent amount (a damn good amount, even) about 1.5 years ago. Now, it’s not great.

Still, there are quite a few condos in the city that are within my price range. Some of them are pretty nice. I’m not 100% sure yet, but it looks like I probably won’t be able to get the unit I mentioned in an earlier post. It may be possible to get them to accept an offer that is within my price range, but it’s hard to say for sure. In the meantime, I’m going to start looking at some other units that are more within my price range.

I actually saw a listing for a really nice looking unit on 118th Avenue. However, it’s in a pretty rough neighbourhood. Still, as I’ve talked about before, 118th Avenue is getting cleaned up, so it might not be a bad investment to buy a place down there. We’ll see how I feel after I’ve viewed the place.
