NaNoWriMo is for Insane People

As you might know, November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This means that thousands of people around the world are attempting to write novels of 50,000 words (or more) in 30 days.
These people are insane.
I have attempted to complete the lunatic challenge of NaNoWriMo in the past, and failed. I decided that I would try again this year, and I’m already starting to regret it.
I’m a pretty insane guy, I’ll admit, but I really don’t think that I am insane enough to do this. That doesn’t mean I’m going to quit, though. It just means that if I don’t manage to finish, I won’t feel too bad about it.
Hopefully, if nothing else, I’ll get some valuable prose out of this lunatic exercise, that I can use in the future.

I know a few people who are taking part, I think you’re all mad too
I think I would go insane trying to do this. A poem a day defeated me.
how far are you along so far?
I’ve been regretting starting, since I don’t really have any idea what I’m writing about, but the rambling seems to be going OK for now. My curse is that I write almost exclusively by hand with a pen and paper, yet for word-count purposes I have to re-type everything. I inevitably give up typing, so my stats are all less than what is actually written, which begs the question of why I bother at all, but whatever.
