Powerless

This morning was an adventure. Overnight, despite being plugged in for ten hours, the battery in my car froze. AMA came out, checked the battery, and boosted me. The battery, I was told, was fucked. The boost would give me enough power to get somewhere and get it fixed. This turned out to be untrue.
The battery was toast, that much is true. Unfortunately, the jump start didn’t quite get me to a place that sells car batteries. It got me to the left turning lane at 118th Avenue and 97th Street. Luckily, there are two turning lanes, so I wasn’t completely fucking up traffic. On the other hand, having no electricity meant having no hazard lights.
I trekked over to the Petro-Canada on the corner, and asked for a phone book. I arranged for a tow truck to come and haul me to somewhere, anywhere, where I could get a battery. They told me that it could be as long as five hours. I called the office (again) to say that instead of being late, I’d likely not be in at all. Luckily, I work at a place where mechanics are employed. Some of these mechanics are road techs. And so, a tech was dispatched to my location. I was picked up, taken to the battery store, and taken back to my car where the new battery was installed. Apparently, they really wanted me to make it to work today. For once, that’s something I’m thankful for.
