Pre-Trip Investments

The following is a brief list of things I’d like to invest in prior to my trip to Cuba:
- A humidor. Nothing fancy, but something that will hold between 25-50 cigars. I’ve always enjoyed cigars, but I’ve always been one to buy it and smoke it that same day. With the possibility of bringing back a bunch of premium Cubans, I’ve been looking into “cigar culture” a bit more, and I think I’d like to invest in a little humidor so that I can store my cigars properly. However, even a cheap humidor isn’t necessary inexpensive. I might just make a tupperdor and use that for the short term.
- A cigar cutter. Again, nothing fancy, just a cheap-o five dollar cutter. Having been the guy who smokes it the same day he buys it, I’ve always just had the tobacconist cut my cigars for me. If I’m going to be actually keeping a small collection in my home, I’m going to need a cutter.
- New glasses. My prescription is a bit outdated, my lenses are scratched pretty badly, and I’d like to try those transitions lenses. If I could go on vacation and not have to worry about bringing my clip-ons everywhere I go, that would be great. Plus, even when I’m not on vacation, I have a bad habit of putting my clip-on sunglasses in my pocket when I’m not using them, and then sitting on them. My current set has been bent out of shape so many times that I’m amazed they haven’t snapped from metal fatigue by now. More so than the cigar paraphernalia, new glasses are a top priority.

[...] I have officially secured all of my pre-trip investments. The cigar cutter was the easiest of the bunch, since it only cost a couple of bucks. I picked one up a few weeks ago when I started making my semi-regular visits to Burlington on Whyte. Last week, I found a nice little “hobby size” humidor on eBay, which should be arriving tomorrow or Monday. I also bought another one today–a 10 stick traveldor that came with a nice lighter and cutter[1]. The final investment was a new pair of glasses. After scouring the city, I have finally found a pair that I liked, and I’ve put my deposit down. In seven to ten days, I should have a new pair of spectacles. [...]
