On Friday, researchers at the University of Toronto launched Psiphon, a web application that allows people in internet-censored countries to bypass the censors and gain safe access to information that their governments don’t want them to see.

According to the CBC, “Psiphon works by letting people in uncensored countries download the free software to run a secure, encrypted server or node in the private network.” The system administrator would then pass the connection information to family and friends in censored countries, allowing them to login and access the internet without restrictions [1].
