Request For WordPress Help

Okay, friends, I’m asking for some WordPress (WP) help, because my memory is failing me.
As you know, I’m launching a new blog soon. I’m currently in the process of getting everything setup, and will probably launch it next week (it will be sort of a “pre-launch,” though, since it probably won’t have the custom theme that I’m hoping to have designed for it, until later). I’m having some trouble with one thing, though.
I can’t seem to remember how to make it so that all of the WP files are in a folder (/wordpress), but have the index page take you right to the blog (i.e.: domain.com instead of domain.com/wordpress). I thought it was as simple as leaving everything in the WP folder, and putting a copy of the index page into the root directory. As far as I can tell, that’s all I’ve done to make it work on Ink Slinger.
Obviously, there is another step that I’m missing, though, because when I tried that on the other blog, I got an error message.
If anyone out there recalls who to do this (and I know it’s simple, but it’s one of those things where I can’t seem to write a search query that gives me the results I need in Google) , please let me know. If you need to see the website in question, let me know, and I’ll email you the domain name.
I know someone will be able to help, so thanks in advance.

The wordpress codex has a guide to sorting it out. The link is in this comment website field.

totally off topic something I thought might be interesting to you.
@Mike: Thanks, I knew it was in the codex somewhere, but I couldn’t find it last night.
@Rosemary: Yeah, I know about all of that. Those reasons don’t really deter me all that much. And, did you notice, according to that article, your theory about the batteries having to be replaced every 5 years is not true?
