Saints, Snakes & Shamrocks

This past Friday, I had the privilege of co-hosting a St. Patrick’s Day poetry/music show with Rosemary Wilson, and Patrick Pilarski. I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all those who came and read, played, and watched. I’d also like to thank the fine folks at Hulbert’s for providing us with a venue for the evening.

I can only say that the the evening was astounding. There were a couple of low points, as there tend to be when you have such a wide range of performers, but they were few. On the whole, the performances given were among the best I’ve seen lately. There was a certain energy in the room that I hope we can recreate in the future. Plus, there was Patrick Pilarski dressed up in green tights. The “goodness” of that image is debatable, but it definitely got people’s attention.

I had a blast playing host for a third of the evening. It was probably the most enjoyable thing I’ve done in a long time. I thought I’d be nervous, and that I’d stammer and have very little to give in the way of banter, but when it all came down, I think I pulled it off quite well. I borrowed a couple of plays from the Michael Gravel handbook, put my own spin on them, and came out with whatever it was that I came out with. (Rosemary: Thanks for letting me co-host, I’d love to do it again sometime!)

On the whole, I think the night was a success for all involved, and I look forward to doing it again. With a little luck, a repeat event might happen sooner, rather than later.

By the way Layne and Carly were awesome singing and it’s great to see the talent different people possess when given a chance to do so!!!

Yeah, I know it’s supposed to be a lower case “h.” I just have issues with not capitalizing proper nouns.

Sorry I had to miss it. Sounds like it was a good night. Hosting is a blast when the crowd and energy is right. So much fun.
