Scarlett Sings Tom Waits

Scarlett Johansson, she of Lost in Translation fame, is set to record a Tom Waits cover album. Frankly, I don’t even know where to begin on this one. Sexiest woman alive or not, I can’t imagine how this could turn out to be a good thing. Still, a certain morbid curiosity has set in, and I will very likely take a listen to this abomination when it is finally released. I can’t imagine spending money for it, but I’ll definitely give it a fair listen, if only because it will provide blog fodder.
(Yes, I realize I’m a bit late on this one, but I only heard about it recently, and couldn’t resist commenting on it.)

I’ve never heard a good Waits cover, save possibly Holly Cole’s version of “Train Song”. I’ve heard that Neko Case does a killer version of “Christmas Card From A Hooker…” but I have yet to hear it. I don’t know. Recording Waits covers just seems wrong. Nobody does him justice.
I’ve ….have you ever heard Scarlett J. sing? This is NOT a good thing. I think I heard her sing a Leonard Cohen song once, and it was awful.
