The Raving Poets Play the Blues

Tonight was “Blues Night” at the Raving Poets, and it was smashing. If there is such a thing as a perfect set, tonight was it. Two perfect sets, actually. The energy was on full. Both the crowd and the readers were giving it everything they had.
In honour of blues night, and because I wanted to read something new, I wrote a piece called “Fisher King Blues” just before I left the apartment this evening. I actually really like it, and it seemed to go over really well with the audience. I got a good number of compliments, and I think there was one person who looked like they were going to cry. That may have been my imagination, though.
The funny thing is, I had a lot of fun reading the piece, even though it’s actually kind of a downer. Something about the band, and the blues, and having that energy behind me…it was awesome.
If nothing else, writing that piece, and then sharing it with the Kasbar crowd acted as a sort of therapy. I often hear songwriters joke that writing songs is cheaper than going to a shrink. Poetry is like that sometimes, too.

Great piece, Adam. For a new piece of work it sounded great. And I gotta agree. Last night was stellar. I’m still on a high.
Are you going to post the piece? I could use a good cry (yes, I also eat quiche.)
I might post it in the future. For now, though, it is for drunk poets only.
I’m still gushing about Wednesday night. Your poem was amazing. It was very fitting given the theme of the night.
Thanks Mike. And, yeah, I’m still blown away by how awesome it was (the night, I mean, not my poem).
