Upgraded WordPress and Added the Buy Me a Beer Plugin

I’ve finally got around to upgrading to WordPress 2.2. I’m glad that I did. I can now edit the code in a post directly, instead of having to rely on the WYSIWYG editor if I need to. It’s also got an auto-save feature, which means I’m much less likely to have posts disappear into the ether on those rare occasions when my browser crashes mid-post.
I’ve also added the Buy Me a Beer Plugin, which allows readers to donate money to my beer fund if they think I’ve posted something worthy of a “tip.” Right now, it’s at the bottom of each post. It’s supposed to be on the sidebar as well, but the theme I’m using isn’t widget-enabled, so I will have to either go in and edit it myself, or find a new theme in order for it to show up on the sidebar.
Most likely, I’ll use a different theme, as I’m still not completely sold on the one I’m currently using. I like a lot of things about it, but I feel looks a little too “plain,” if I don’t include a picture with each post. As much as I enjoy adding pictures to my posts, I’m not avid enough a photographer to add an image to every single post. I simply don’t have enough content to do it. Because of this, I’m seriously considering reverting back to the previous theme.
I may look for a new theme, instead, but I did like the last one I was using, so I think that will likely be what I go with, should I decide to abandon this one. I’ll give it a few more days, but I think I’ll be ditching The Journalist in the near future.

Just a note for anyone who is interested in using the Buy Me a Beer plugin, but doesn’t drink, there is an alternative image. When you download the package, it defaults to the beer mug, but there is also an image of a coffee mug that you can swap out very easily.
It’s fairly intuitive, but if you have trouble figuring it out, drop me a line and I’ll give you a hand.
Okay, you’ve almost got me brave enough to attempt the upgrade — “edit the code in a post directly” is a big plus!
