Winter Redux

I am back from Cuba and, while I certainly can’t complain about my trip, it’s good to be home. No matter how pleasant a vacation is, it always feels good to come home at the end of it all. I wish, however, that it weren’t snowing outside. I woke up–late–went into the living room to open the curtains and–BAM!–it looked like winter all over again.

Admittedly, most of the snow has since melted. It’s not particularly cold out, but it’s wet and messy. Such is spring, I suppose.

The Cuba trip was excellent, providing a lot of much needed relaxation, as well as a lot of history and culture. I’ll likely be writing several posts about it in the near future, but at the moment I’m still processing the whole experience. I’ll pick out some choice pictures for you, and write up a post or two soon, I promise.

In the meantime, I’ve appear to have been given another week of “holidays.” Because I try not to blog about work, I won’t go into much detail, but I gave notice just before I left on holidays. I have found another opportunity that I couldn’t turn down (I will, in essence, be writing for a living). The compensation package is nearly identical, but the work itself should be much more rewarding, and it will allow me to actually make use of my university education–something which my previous job didn’t really require me to do. For whatever reason, my old employer called me yesterday (I was still on holiday) and told me that they won’t be needing me for the rest of the week.

I was surprised, but I suppose I can’t complain. Labour standards require that they pay me out, so I’m basically getting paid to sit on my ass for a week until I start my new job. Having said that, I haven’t done much except sit on my ass today. As much as a person can bitch about having to go to work five days a week, it certainly helps to fill the time. I feel like I’ve been incredibly unproductive today. Maybe I’ll clean the apartment tomorrow, or go do my grocery shopping for this weekend’s camping trip. Anything to make it feel like I’m not wasting away the hours.
